Anodizing Wastewater Treatment Systems

RO / DI Rinse Water Purification

Anodizing shops are using RO and DI water for their rinses. Met-Chem manufactures and engineers RO/DI Water Purification Systems. Our engineers will design the most cost-effective way to reach the water purification levels you are targeting. Each system is customized to meet or exceed the water standards you require.

The anodizing process also produces wastewater. Met-Chem designs and manufactures Wastewater Treatment Systems for Anodizing Shops. Water from the rinse tanks will need to be purged or flushed periodically. The wastewater collected will be treated and safely discharged.

Met-Chem offers a Continuous Flow Wastewater Treatment System for larger anodizing shops, and for smaller shops, Met-Chem offers a Batch Waste Treatment Systems or an Evaporation System.

Please Contact Met-Chem today to speak with an expert who will help custom design a system to fit your specific water treatment needs.

Water Purification Schematic Flow Process

There are various water polishing schemes to purify water. Met-Chem will engineer the most cost-effective way to reach the purification level you are targeting.

In the diagram above, city tap water is run through the Activated Carbon Filter, and it will remove organic compounds found in water. This will prevent microbial fouling in the Reverse Osmosis System.

The water is then run through the Water Softener. This will protect your Reverse Osmosis System by removing scale-forming elements such as calcium that cannot be removed by the activated carbon filter.

The Reverse Osmosis System creates a very pure form of water. Reverse Osmosis is a water purification process that uses pressure and a semi-permeable membrane to remove dissolved solids. The RO water is stored in a holding tank.

If the RO water needs more purification as specified by your paint supplier, a Deionization System will reduce the conductivity of the RO water. The deionizer will remove trace minerals and charged ions from the RO Water. In the diagram, the RO water is recirculated continuously through the Deionization System where it can be used for rinses and make-up water.

Metal Finishing Wastewater Treatment

Equalization Tank

Incoming wastewater from various streams are collected in the equalization tank. The main function and purpose of the equalization tank is to make the wastewater homogeneous, and it maintains the desired flow rate.

pH Adjust Tanks

By adjusting the pH (hydroxide ion concentration) of the wastewater, metals become insoluble and they become easier to remove. Typically a two-stage pH Adjustment system is used obtain a specific pH Target. The two-stage pH system is more economical and Saves on Time, Chemicals, and Money.

pH Adjust #1

The first pH Adjust Tank is used for the gross adjustment of pH. This will narrow the pH level in order to help hit a manageable target.

pH Adjust #2

The second pH Adjust Tank is used for fine adjustment. An exact pH is needed for the polymer to help settle the metal hydroxides out of the water.

Clarifier

After the wastewater has had the pH adjusted, it will go into a clarifier, where polymer is added into the flocculation tank. Here the sludge settles to the bottom of the clarifier. Wastewater from the top of the clarifier can be safely discharged. While the sludge will be transferred to the Sludge Thickener Tank.

Sludge Thickening Tank

The sludge from the clarifier is collected in the Sludge Thickener. This sludge will be eventually processed by the Filter Press. Any overflow will be sent to the Pump Station.

Filter Press

When there is enough wastewater in the sludge thickener, the slurry from the tank is pumped into the Filter Press. The filter press separates the liquids and solids using pressure filtration. Sludge Cake will form between the filter plates, where it can be safely removed and easily discarded. The filtered water is then sent to the pump station.

Batch Waste Treatment System

Batch Waste Treatment System

When your daily wastewater volume is not high enough to warrant a Met-Chem Continuous Flow Wastewater Treatment System then a Met-Chem Batch Wastewater Treatment System is the way to go. Our batch wastewater treatment systems range from 500 gallons per day up to 10,000 gallons per day.

Met-Chem can build a waste treatment designed to fit your specific treatment needs.

Wastewater Evaporation System

If your wastewater flow rate is not high enough to justify a Batch or Continuous Flow Wastewater Treatment System, an Atmospheric or Thermal Evaporation System might be a better solution for your company. An Evaporation System can reduce your need to haul away expensive wastewater, and the equipment would Pay for Itself in a manner of years.
