Met-Chem manufactures Filter Presses for Food Grade applications. There are numerous food grade applications, such as Mash Filtering, Hemp Oil Extraction, Essential Oils, and pharmaceutical applications to name a few.
A Filter Press uses pressured filtration to capture solids between the filter plates and discharge the liquid filtrate.
Yes, with some small changes a Met-Chem Filter Press can be made to be food grade compliant. A traditional filter press will use threads in the head plate in order for the center feed pipe and manifold plumbing to be secure in the filter press. Since threads are not FDA compliant our food grade filter presses use a 304SS liner plate which we use to build the manifold off of. The traditional plumbing also has 4 threaded ball valves. These are replaced with tri-clamp fittings. Next, only gasketed filter press plates are used to ensure there is no leaking from between the plates and it also keeps outside contaminants from entering the filter press.
Met-Chem can also provide an FDA approved diaphragm feed pump that also includes a tri-clamp fitting connection. The final change is that we use cylinders and hydraulic pumps that are manufactured and tested with air only. When they arrive at our facility we use a vegetable oil to fill the cylinder and hydraulic pump instead of the traditional hydraulic oil. Met-Chem offers various Filter Cloths for Food Grade applications. If you are not sure which filter cloths you need, Met-Chem will help determine which filter cloth material (e.g. nylon, polyester, etc), micron rating, and weave that will be best suited for your specific application.
In addition, Met-Chem‘s sister company Micropure provides sterile air and steam with Culinary Air/Steam Filters.
A Met-Chem Filter Press can be constructed with Food Grade Stainless Steel (Grade 304 or 316 SS). Stainless Steel provides a corrosion-resistant and non-reactive surface. This is greatly beneficial for applications with acidic filtrates. Other metals would be reactive, and it may affect the taste or flavor of the product. In addition, Stainless Steel can withstand a wide range of temperatures.
Food Grade Stainless Steel is easy to clean, and other materials will have small grooves or divots where bacteria can form. Much of a Met-Chem Filter Press can be disassembled. In the pictures below, you are able to see the removable clamps and piping. This allows you to properly clean and sterilize the plumbing when needed. The elbows are rubber lined to keep a tight seal.
Also, Stainless Steel is a strong durable metal. With proper maintenance and cleaning, it will provide your company with lower maintenance costs, and in the long run, it will save you money.
Met-Chem manufactures a wide range of filter presses for food grade & pharmaceutical applications, such as Mash Filtering, plasma fractionation, CBD Hemp Oil Extraction. Each filter press will be designed to your specifications. As your business grows, our filter presses can be expanded by adding additional filter plates, reducing the need to purchase new costly equipment.

Met-Chem can offer start-up and installation as an additional option. We can provide full support as you get your system up and running. We have installation technicians and technical representatives that we can send to your facility to make sure the system is running as it should.
All units and systems are complete with manuals and telephone support. However, if you need someone to come to your facility, we will be happy to quote you on that as well.
To protect costly equipment, maintain processing efficiency and reduce downtime, it’s important to remove scale and debris that are common in most systems. Filtered steam will protect valves,
process equipment and process filters from damage.
To protect product purity you need filtered steam. When filtered through a MICROPURE Steam Filter, steam used to agitate, mix or cook food will be free from contaminates which can spoil the appearance, smell or taste of your product.
